If you are a citizen outside the EU/EEA or Switzerland, but educated in the EU/EEA or in Switzerland as either a medical doctor, dentist, nurse or midwife, your education may be recognized according to the principles of automatic recognition.
The fact that your education is recognized automatically means that you will not have to complete the usual steps for applicants from countries outside the EU/EEA when you apply for a Danish authorization. Instead, you will be able to obtain authorization already on the basis of documentation for your education.
How should you apply?
You must apply for authorization as usual within the professional group that is relevant to you. If you have stated in your application that you are educated in an EU/EEA country or in Switzerland, we look at whether your education meets the requirements in the EU-Directive 2005/36/EC. We will contact you if your education meets therequirements.
How your application is processed
When we make an assessment whether your education can be recognized according to the principle of automatic recognition, we look at whether:
- your diploma and any accompanying certificates are mentioned in Annex V to the directive EU recognition directive Annex V to the directive (directive 2005/36/EF).
- you have a certificate of conformity
We will contact you if we lack documentation for e.g. accompanying education certificates or a certificate of conformity.
The certificate of conformity must be issued by the health authorities in the country of your education and must confirm that you have completed the required training to obtain your qualification, and that your education meets the requirements specified in the Directive.
If you have completed your education in Norway, Sweden, Finland or Iceland we do usually not require a certificate of conformity.
If we cannot process your application according to the principles of automatic recognition, your application will be processed according to the rules that apply to applicants with citizenship and education outside the EU/EEA.
